Many of us grew up watching Westerns. After the credits rolled, we would put our cowboy hats, got out plastic guns and played until we dropped with our friends or siblings. Even though modern generations are not so familiar with these excellent motion pictures, some of the great actors have managed to bridge the generation gap, and their names eventually reached the immortality status. John Wayne Some hard-core Western fans probably know that his name was Marion Mitchell Morrison. Famous Duke received a scholarship to the University of Southern California, which he lost due to a bodysurfing accident. Lucky for us, he found work at local film studios, and the rest is history. Thanks to his role in John Ford's Stagecoach Wayne’s career skyrocketed, and he went on to star in 142 motion pictures. Some of his best-known Westerns are Red River, The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and True Grit. His last public appearance was at the Academy Awards ceremony in 1979. Wayne died of cancer several months later. Clinton Eastwood Jr. The star of many Spaghetti Westerns won Academy Awards for his work in the Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. Some of his other accomplishments include movies such as Any Which Way You Can, Hang 'Em High, Play Misty for Me, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Firefox, Tightrope, In the Line of Fire, The Bridges of Madison County, and Gran Torino. Aside from acting, Eastwood is also famous for his directing skills. Some of his ‘babies’ are Mystic River, Letters from Iwo Jima, Changeling and American Sniper. In 2000, he received the Italian Venice Film Festival Golden Lion for lifetime achievement. Gary Cooper During his thirty-six years long career, Cooper was a leading actor in eighty-four feature films. Although he began his career as a stunt rider, he managed to land acting roles. With his first sound picture, The Virginian, he became a genuine movie star. Copper received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his cinematic achievements in Sergeant York and High Noon.
